This is too good to not share

I posted this on facebook but this is so good that I had to share it on here as well. Moses is departing Egypt: A Facebook Haggadah.

snail mail

Like many of you preppy bloggers out there, I too, am obsessed with fun stationary. Sadly, I just don't seem to have as many reasons to use it as I would like. Angela, and maybe several other bloggers as well, have started a snail mail exchange, and now I too, am jumping on the bandwagon. My cute stationary was meant to be used, Gosh darn it! If you would like to receive cards from me in the mail, send me an email to whaleflipflops{@}gmail{.}com with your name, address, and birthday and any other fun facts about yourself that you think I should know.

J just asked me out for Saturday night. I'm giddy like a 15 year old girl. :) That's all folks.

catching up on my awards

Capperson over at the Life of Carie gave me this award. (I forget what it's called.)

"These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

Megs over at Newbie New Yorker gave me the Kreativ Blogger Award.

I have to list 7 things I love, as well as tag 7 other bloggers!

1. Flying. Despite the fact that I am scared of just about everything in the world, for some reason I have never been scared of flying. To me, there is no greater feeling in the world than takeoff and landing.
2. Wine.
3. Melted cheese. Yes, I know my palate is so refined. But seriously, melted cheese is amazing in all its forms- fondue, cheese sauce, pizza, cheese fries, etc.
4. My sorority. Yes, it's cheesy, but I seriously cannot imagine what my life would have been like had I not joined ASA.
5. Dancing around my apartment in my underwear to Taylor Swift songs. Yes, it's embarrassing, but that doesn't mean it's not fun. Plus, it burns off calories!
6. Working out on my excercise ball.
7. Anne Taintor products. A combination of two of my favorite things: stationary and sarcasm.

I'm going to combine the two awards and tag:
Prep-E Girl
Katie Lake
Preppy Pink Crocodile
Southern Belle
Pretty in Pearls

So I apologize for the constant stream of blog posts today but I have an idea that I would like some bloggers' advice on. As many of you know, one of my passions in life is baking. I bake a lot and then end up sending cookies to my friends because I can't possibly eat all that I bake. A few people have suggested that I open a bakery and while I would love to, this is completely not feasible. Lately, I have been toying around with the idea of opening a bakery on Etsy. I know there are quite a few on there, but personally, I am a little skeptical about buying baked goods off the internet. Has anyone done this before? For those bloggers who have Etsy stores, can you tell me more about the process and if you think it will be worth it? Any other suggestions/pearls of wisdom/advice? Should I go for it? Yay or nay?

If you want to ask me something and have not had a chance to do it yet, please do so here. I will try to answer questions one day this week.

the more boys I meet

I originally started The More Boys I Meet as a place to chronicle all of my truly horrendous boy experiences. Eventually, I got really into blogging and created this blog for my everyday life. The readership/post content of the two blogs is a lot different (71 posts and 113 followers on this one vs. 4 posts and 16 followers on the other one). I am now wondering if it makes sense to even keep two separate blogs or if I should consolidate them and just use this one for everything going forward. What are your thoughts?

Meet me in St. Louis

So I don't have much of a weekend recap. I had a pretty uneventful weekend. Spent Friday nigh/most of the day on Saturday at my best friend L and her husband C's house. It's still weird realizing that my friends are married. Saturday I spent the night at my mother's house and just relaxed. I do, however, have a very exciting piece of news to share with y'all. About a month or so ago, I applied to be a facilitator at a sorority leadership conference in Missouri this summer knowing that they couldn't possibly take all of the applicants and there was a really good chance that I would not be picked to go. Well, always apply for things even if you don't think you'll get them, because I, am going to St. Louis in July!!!! I am so excited about this for three reasons 1) I am the biggest Alpha Nerd ever and absolutely love my sorority, 2) flying is my favorite thing in the whole wide world- to me there is no greater feeling than takeoff and landing, and 3) I haven't drank in Missouri yet and now I get to cross it off my list. I'm so excited right now. Unfortunately, in between Chicago in May, and my birthday/St. Louis in July, I'm not sure if I'll be able to swing going to the Lilly Warehouse Sale any more, but I will certainly try my hardest. I already told one of my sisters that I may get Lilly letters for the conference.

Wear Pink and Make the Boys Wink

Thank you to everyone who entered my Lilly Pulitzer perfume giveaway. When all was said and done, there were more than 120 entries. That's a lot of little pieces of paper! And now for what you all really care about.

Congratulations to:

Cricket @ Pearls are a Girl's Best Friend!

Email me your address to whaleflipflops{@}gmail{.}com.

Have a great weekend!

favorite things

Well ladies, it is time for my weekly favorite things post. In honor of my two keyfob giveaways this week, I will dedicate this week's post to various keyfobs and keychains.

I will start this off with a keychain that is very near and dear to my heart.

YES! That is a whale flip flop keychain from the company that makes my beloved whale flip flops! I nearly squealed when I saw that (ok, I did squeal, a little) and have to say that I absolutely NEED this and it will be mine. ($45 at Vineyard Vines)

Another great one from them is this Bloody Mary Fabric Printed Keyfob for $15.

Alcoholic beverages not your thing? How about an adorable laydbug key fob from New York's own A. Tierney ($10)? It does come in other motifs as well, but I am slightly ladybug-crazy so this is the one that makes me go "aaaaaaawwwwwwwwww."

Here is a cute and preppy one from Whitney Caroline Designs ($5)

If you are looking for an Easter gift for a lucky girl, I'm partial to this Bunny keyring from Coach ($38). As a side note, does anyone else really dislike Coach's new site layout?

I think that the cotton tail on the bunny's, um, tuchus as my Nana would say, is so cute and fun but I would probably get it dirty in, oh, 2.5 seconds.

I love the colors and simple elegance of this double flower keyfob from Kate Spade ($55).

Another fun summer one from Kate Spade is this boat steering wheel keyfob ($281).

I included it for two reasons, one because it is cute, and two, because can we just talk about the fact that it is actually $281?! Yes, that price is in U.S. Dollars...

In the market for something that you can actually afford? Shocking, I know. I love this Watch Hill Riff Tide ($22.50) from Kiel James Patrick. That Tiffany blue-esque background is seriously my favorite color.

A really cute one that I am in love with and am seriously debating is this Crab one Miss Priss ($16). My zodiac sign is Cancer the Crab, and while I never really paid attention to the zodiac at all, I have always found crabs to be adorable and have held a certain fondness for them.

Another fun crab one is this Crabs and Beer Bottles from Tucker Blair.

The idea of the alcoholic crabs just makes me smile. If you want to try to win a keyfob, you can enter here.

Since ~miller ribbons~ custom makes all of their key fobs, I do not have a picture of the one I want, but I have already decided that I will be ordering one that has a Tiffany Blue ribbon with white polka dots on it and my initials on it in red. I am also giving away 5 of these on my blog.

Finally, my last two keyrings on this week's post come from the one, the only, Tiffany.

First is this sterling silver palm tree key ring ($130)

and second is this Elsa Peretti initial keyring ($145)

I cannot ever justify spending that much money on a keychain, but looking is fun!

Tucker Blair Giveaway

Thanks to Taylor over at Tucker Blair for allowing me to host yet another keyfob giveaway. Since Miss Monogram is also hosting such a giveaway, I will let mine run longer to allow people who didn't get a chance to win one on mine.

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment with what your favorite keyfob is for 1 entry, become a follower for 2 entries, and post a link to this giveaway or put it on your sidebar for 3 entries. The deadline to enter will be Monday, April 6th at midnight, with the winner announced on Tuesday the 7th.

Me? Personally, I'm a fan of the Crabs and Beer Bottles one because really, drunk Crabs, how can you not love that?

it's giveaway time!

Originally I was not going to do a giveaway to celebrate 101 followers, but well, what fun would that be? The wonderful folks over at ~miller ribbons~ have graciously offered to host a giveaway on my page. They have generously agreed to donate 5!!! keyfobs to the winners of this giveaway. The winners will get to pick what color ribbon they want for their fobs and they can be personalized with either their names, initials, or sorority letters. I have an Alpha Sigma Alpha keyfob from ~miller ribbons~ and I love it. Really folks, is there anything cuter than polka dotted grosgrain?

How cute are these?!

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post describing what your favorite grosgrain ribbon item is for one entry, become a follower for two entries, and blog about this post or link it to your sidebar for three entries. There will be 5 winners in all so have fun and good luck! (If you win, don't forget to post pictures of what your keyfobs look like.)

This giveaway will run until Wednesday, April 8th, at 5:00pm, with the winners announced the following day.

date recap

So yesterday, I finally went out with ILG. After having a minor freakout in my mother's house over not having brought anything that is pub-appropriate to wear (thank you to Megs and Kate for emailing me through my fashion freakout), I settled on dark jeans, Tory flats, and a white Lilly top with a black cami underneath. Because really folks, nothing says "casual" quite like an outfit that costs more than some people's rent in the Midwest does. (Of course, this is true of most of my outfits, so I'm not one to talk.) The place we were originally supposed to go to had cancelled pub trivia because of March Madness, so we ended up going to another bar in Murray Hill. We were doing so well there in the beginning, and then by the end, we got our rear ends handed to us on a platter. We got to talk a lot and I had a great time. He has an amazing sense of humor and I really like him, but I got the feeling that it isn't mutual. (It was nothing that he said or did, he was so nice and friendly the entire night, it's just my woman's intuition.) I would really want to go out with him again, but if he doesn't call again, I won't be shocked. Considering some of the other dates I've had, I'm just glad that this one didn't work out because we don't mesh, and not because his only hobby is watching porn or he can't read or whatnot.

Actually, what didn't help was my 50,000 or so sorority sisters texting me every 5 minutes to say "how's it going?" He thought it was funny. I was so embarassed. At some poing in the night, I just gave up and turned my phone off.

Thursday, March 26, 2009

My wonderful sister, Getting Lost in London, has pointed out to me that I now have 101 followers which means that a special post is in order since I love palindromes. Since I am not witty/clever/all together there at this particular moment, I have nothing "special" to offer up and no exciting pearls of wisdom, but I did want to say thank you to y'all for being my followers. When I first started this blog, I did not think that I would have quite so many followers or would get to talk to so many wonderful people as I have. Also, where else can a New York City girl say "y'all" and not get made fun for it?

(KMH, give me inspiration and maybe I'll do something fab for 202 followers?)

tax annoyance and boy

Last night I went to get my taxes done. As I have mentioned about 10,0000 times already, I had plans to go out and buy a KitchenAid stand mixer in Empire Red the very second that I got my tax refund. Stand mixer is going to have to wait some more. I didn't take a look at my W2 before I went to the accountant's office (smart, I know) because I figured it's all done electronically, so what can be wrong with it? Plenty, apparently. Instead of putting down my annual salary and then the amount of taxes that was taken out, my HR wrote my salary as annual minus taxes and left the tax line blank which makes it look like I didn't pay any taxes this year. Lovely. Now I have to go and have them get me a corrected W2 so I can go back and do my taxes.

On a happier note, cute boy called me last night to set plans for tonight. His hours are later than mine, and the earliest he could meet is 7:30. Since I work right near my mother's house, I'm just going to go there after work and change, which spares me the confusion of figuring out what to wear to an after-work date. I brought dark jeans, Tory flats and my new Juicy flats, and several cute tops to change into and will play it by ear. We're going to a bar for drinks and pub trivia. I am a big dork and absolutely love random trivia and am really good at it (::toot toot:: <---sound of me tooting my own horn) so I got so excited when he said that. I immediately started texting Getting Lost in London to let her know. He has a great sense of humor and is a really nice guy so I'm looking forward to this one. Of course, if he starts telling me that his only hobby is watching porn, I will have to become a lesbian.

credit card update

So as an update to the post down below. I called and spoke with my credit card company. I explained to the woman that I knew that the charge was going to be $22.50 and I was fully prepared to pay that. What I did not appreciate was the fact that 1) they changed the amount after I had signed the receipt, 2) they had my cell phone number on file and yet no one bothered to call me and say "we're sorry we made a mistake and will have to void the charge and run it through again," and 3) they added on an extra $0.20 to the tip that I had signed for (I left a generous tip, based on the $22.50 amount, not the $2.25). Obviously the $0.20 is not a big deal at all or the fact that they charged me for the amount that I was prepared to pay, it's the principle of the fact that they fudged around with my credit card information without giving me any notification. After having been a victim of identity theft, I am very careful about monitoring my card. The woman at the credit card company told me that it all seems really shady and that I should file an investigation for them to look into it.

can they do this?

On Friday, I ordered lunch for myself and a coworker and put it on my credit card. The guy taking my order told me that it would be $22.50. When he ran my card through, he accidentally typed in $2.25 instead of $22.50. This was what was on my receipt when the delivery guy came and that is what I signed for. Today, I checked my credit card statement online, and it showed that they had debited my account for the $22.50 plus tip. Considering this is the amount I was supposed to pay, that's fine. I'm just a little surprised/confused as to why they debited this amount after I had already signed the receipt. I thought that after a customer signs for something, the price can't be changed, and if the store/establishment marks the price down wrong, then they are obligated to give you the lower price. Any thoughts?

the after work date

So tomorrow, the boy I've liked for a long time and I are finally going out. Considering I didn't think he even knew that I exist, this is major. One thing that I have never fully mastered is the art of dressing for the after-work date. Any advice on what to wear? For those of you that are single, what do you like to wear on an after-work date? Pictures are appreciated! I thought about wearing the new Lilly dress that I am oh-so in love with, but tomorrow it will be 48 and rainy. Just what I needed. For cute boy to see me with my hair looking like a giant frizz puff.

Questions, Take 2

Hi ladies. This will be another questions post. Feel free to ask me anything you want and I will respond to them in a later post.

I do have some friends that were badly hurt and stalked by someone whom they trusted from a forum that we were all on, so because of that, I am concerned about internet safety. You can ask me anything that you want, but if I feel that a question is too personal or would reveal my identity, I won't answer it. (No questions about where I work or live, etc.)

giveaway reminder

So I realized that I never set an end time for my giveaway. It will be 3:30pm Eastern Standard Time on Friday, the 27th. If you haven't entered yet, be sure to do so!

pole dancing?

So for a long time now, I've really thought about taking pole dancing classes. It seems so fun and from what I hear it's great cardio! At one point I actually did sign up to take classes, but I was unable to start due to a shoulder injury. I am now once again debating taking the classes. Has anyone done this before? Was it fun? Hard? Should I go for it? Yay or nay?

whatever happened to

Calista Cove? That site's been down for forever now. I miss it. She always had the cutest stuff and I wanted to buy more headbands. Does anyone know if it will be coming back?

free shipping at Ida Claire

Hi ladies. I wanted to let all of you know that Ida Claire is offering free shipping on any item in the store with code "SPRING09" through March 31st. Someone please tell me to be good and not buy this:

what a wonderful weekend

So aside from being propositioned for a threesome by some random strangers, I had a pretty fantastic weekend! On Friday, after work I went to the Lilly store to start my spring shopping. Unfortunately a lot of the items that I had wanted to get were no longer in the store, but I did end up getting the Downie Dress:

The Lathan Top (in a pink/green flowery pattern, for some reason I can't find a picture of it online):

And some perfume for my giveaway. I saw the Lilly Jeep outside of the townhouse. The battery in my camera had died, but I was able to take a picture with my phone. It is now the background on my phone. After that, I stopped by my favorite place to buy shoes, Plaza Too. They were having a warehouse sale which I did not know about, and I ended up walking out with a pair of pale gold Juicy Couture flats for $30!

I am not a fan of Juicy Couture at all, but these are really cute and comfortable and great for going out, so I couldn't say no. After that, I went to Filene's Basement which was across the street, and got a Lilly top for $80 there. Unfortunately, I did not think to take a picture of it, and can't find it online. I got it in a size four which made me so happy considering that about a year and a half ago I was a size 12! When I got back home, I had an envelope waiting for me. What was inside it? The luggage tag and passport holder that I won from Hopsy's birthday giveaway. Thank you so much girl! I love them.

On Saturday, I finally got my hair cut as well as my nails and eyebrows done. Thank you Lifebooker, I needed that, badly. I came home to find a package for me. Inside it was the magazine holder that I had ordered from Ida Claire. I love it even more in person than I did on the website and the owner was such a sweetheart and even sent me a monogrammed koozie just because! I love them both so much and just want to publicly thank her!

I also started buying hostess gifts for my sorority sister whom I'm going to visit in Chicago in May, but since she reads this blog religiously, I'm not going to post them here until after my visit. ;)

Saturday night, J and I went to dinner at this amazing steak place. We also had our first kiss! :) That made me soooo happy. More than the steak. Sunday, I ended up baking chocolate caramel cookies and went to go see I Love You Man with B (I was too tired to go bowling as planned). We snuck the cookies into the theater and ended up eating them all.

a blogging question

How do you get the two columns on either side of your blog instead of just the one so all of your info, links, followers, pictures, etc, aren't all on the right side like my blog is now?

Only in New York

This weekend I had what can only be described as the epitome of an "only in NY" moment. I was on the subway coming back from the salon and there was a middle-aged married couple sitting directly across from me. The husband was blatantly checking me out while he was holding his wife's hand! I was really annoyed by this and thought that it was the most disrespectful thing ever. A couple of minutes later, I looked up from texting my friends only to notice that this time it was the wife who was checking me out. Lovely. Just when I thought that it wasn't going to get any weirder, they got up from their seats, came up to me, and asked me if I wanted to get to know them. In the biblical sense. Both of them. At the same time! (No this was not the language that they used. This is me paraphrasing them asking me if I wanted to join them in a threesome.) I was so flabbergasted and didn't know what to do that as soon as the train stopped, I got off (5 stops early) and had to wait for the next train. Only in New York folks.

Happy Spring!

Happy First Day of Spring?

I absolutely cannot stand snow. Everyone thinks that it is so beautiful and picturesque, but when you live in New York City, it only stays that way for about 2.5 seconds before it gets to be all brown and black and gross. Also, I absolutely hate cold weather. I spent the first 7.5 years of my life living in the Soviet Union, so that is more snow than I have ever needed to see in my lifetime. I was so excited for the start of spring and flip flop weather. Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and saw huge snowflakes! Not cool. It's the first day of spring. Global warming is supposed to make things warmer, not colder. Fortunately, the snow stopped and it is now gorgeous out and sunny and I get to leave work an hour earlier, which makes me happy. After work, I'm going to the Lilly store and J. Crew and Plaza Too (one of my favorite stores to buy shoes) to begin my spring wardrobe shopping. I have already lost several pounds and am very happy about that. I'm hoping to be a size 4 by summer and that seems totally feasible now.

Last night, J and I went to see one of my favorite bands, ZO2 perform in Long Island with Bret Michaels. I think I had to have been the only person in the audience who has never seen a single episode of "Rock of Love" and has no desire to see one. I listen almost exclusively to country music, and these guys are anything but country, but I love them anyway. I find that when an artist or group is really into their music and puts on a great show, even if you're not a huge fan of their music, you still find yourself getting into it. Tomorrow night, we're going out to dinner. We're still in that "not really friends but not boyfriend/girlfriend" stage, and are nowhere near exclusive so I am talking to a few other guys at the moment. For some reason, guys just don't notice me, but as soon as I start talking to one guy, a few more pop out of the woodwork. When it rains, it pours, I guess. I'm hoping that IG, the guy I really like who asked me out, and I can finally go out next week. Also, tomorrow I finally get a haircut, eyebrow wax and mani/pedi. If I don't get my eyebrows done for a while, when I finally do get them done, I feel human again. Does anyone else feel the same way? On Sunday, B, my ex who is now my best friend, and I are planning on going bowling and walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. I love spring!

On a scale from 1-10, how anal retentive am I?

One thing about me is that I like to make plans in advance. Way in advance. About two weeks ago, I made plans to have dinner with my friend on May 25th! My calendar fills up pretty quickly. Today, I decided to start figuring out what I want to do for my birthday. My birthday is not until July. Please tell me I'm not the only crazy one out there who does this. Also, NYC ladies, any suggestions of what I can do? I'm drawing a blank here. All I know is that I would rather not go to the Meatpacking District.

I *heart* Lifebooker

For all of my NYC ladies, if you have not heard of Lifebooker, it is absolute amazingness. It is an online appointment-booking website for salons and spas which offers discounts of up to 50% off on services. I just booked a haircut, mani/pedi, and eyebrow wax for Saturday all for under $100! (Remember folks, I live in NYC. For us this is dirt cheap.) I'm just so excited and looking forward to my weekend that I just had to share! For every appointment that you book with them, you get reward dollars that can be used towards a future appointment. If you live in NYC and want a $5 reward to use on an appointment, let me know and I will refer you.

awards time

Thank you to Chloe for giving me the Kreativ Blogger Award.

Here are the award rules:
List 7 things that you love and then pass the award on to 7 bloggers you love!
Be sure to tag them and let them know they have won!
You can copy the picture of the award and put it on your sideboard
letting the whole world know.....you are KREATIV!

1) I love flip flops. I literally own boxes of them! I tried to downsize my collection when I moved from my parents' house and yet I still ended up with a massive amount. This will not stop me from buying a ton more this spring/summer season.
2) I love musicals, especially Phantom of the Opera. In fact, I am slightly obsessed with it. I have seen it three times on Broadway already and J and I are planning to go see it again. When I was younger, when I would actually sing into my hairbrush, I always pretended to be the Phantom. (I thought his lines were much cooler than Christine's.)
3) I love sushi. It is one food that I could probably eat every single day of my life. One advantage of living where I do is that there are a lot of sushi restaurants in the area and because of all of the competition, they offer half-priced sushi all day long. It ends up being $2.00-2.50 for regular rolls and $1 for individual pieces. If I ever don't feel like cooking, I just order sushi!
4) Baking. Anyone who follows this blog knows that baking is one of my joys in this world. I love to bake but being that I'm single and live by myself, I can never eat all of what I bake. I usually bring cookies in to work or sometimes I mail them to my friend who's in the Air Force. I promised a family friend's daughter and my best friend's little sister that I would send them cookies to college. Before the start of Passover, it is traditional for Jews to get rid of their non-Passover items by "selling" them temporarily to their non-Jewish friends and neighbors so that they don't own them for the week of Passover. I decided that instead of doing that this year, I will bake up all that I have and send cookies to all of my non-Jewish friends to enjoy!
5) Palindromes. I'm really into symmetry. My initials are a palindrome and this makes me very happy. I have decided to do a fun giveaway for post #101 when I get to it, I have to figure out what that will be.
6) Yellow Rubber Duckies. This is an inside joke with one of my best friends from freshman year of high school. The joke is no longer funny, but the duck thing stuck around. Whenever someone sees anything with ducks on it, they automatically buy it for one of us.
7) Longchamp bags. In my mind, Longchamp is the perfect bag. They are durable, waterproof, basic so they can go with anything, come in a plethora of colors, and the Pliages series folds which makes them awesome to travel with. I own 5 and plan to acquire more.

I will now pass this award to my favorite bloggers:
Lou Lou
Southern Starlet
BLC :o

I'm baaaaaaaaack

Hi ladies. I have returned to the land of blogging. Unfortunately I came down with a nasty virus last week, my doctor thinks it could have been a flare-up of mono, and was out of work for a week. My computer is broken and I have not gotten around to ordering a new one, so I was internet-less for a week. Thank goodness I have email and facebook on my phone which prevented me from going stark crazy! I will post an update on my life later, I just wanted to say hi and that I have not forgotten all of you! :)

hi my name is MRM and I am socially awkward when it comes to boys

I have seriously the worst luck of anyone I know when it comes to boys. I mean this literally. How many other girls can say that their date's only hobby was porn? I can't think of any. Well, this weekend, the stars aligned, hell got a little chilly, a couple of pigs decided that the Wright Brothers were their role models and emulated them, and this boy that I've had a crush on for, oh quite some time now, asked me out. I was at a Purim party that he hosted on Saturday night and we talked for a bit and he bought me a drink. I didn't think he was into me (story of my life) but on Sunday morning when I wrote on his facebook wall to say "thanks for inviting me, I had fun :)" he sent me back a message asking if I wanted to grab a drink this week and if he could get my number. For any normal girl (heavy emphasis on the word normal), having a guy that she really likes ask her out would be a good thing. However, this is me we're talking about. This means that I am now spazzing and nervous and have somehow managed to regress to age 15 and this pretty much guarantees that the date will not go well. I'm giddy and trying to stay calm about this. At least now it gives me an excuse to buy one of the Lilly date tops from my favorite things post.

Two VERY Big Thank Yous

I just wanted to give two great big thank yous to BLC:o and Meg. I spent Friday night at my mother's house, and when I got home I had two wonderful packages waiting for me. I got my Lilly Pulitzer address book from BLC:o's Pay it Forward giveaway, which is much more lovely in person than I though possible, and the Flip and Tumble tote from Meg. The tote is adorable and is already in the bottom of my purse for when I go to Trader Joe's next! Thank you ladies. I am one truly happy blogger.

Favorite Things

As usual, it is Friday afternoon, which means it is time for my weekly Favorite Things post. Sadly I could not get tickets to the Martha Stewart Lilly Pulitzer show. I am also unable to attend Kappa Prep's NYC meetup as I have plans that cannot be altered. However, since I know a lot of bloggers out there are going for Wednesday's show, I will be devoting this week's Favorite Things to the queen of pink and green, Lilly Pulitzer.

This year, I am all about the tunic, and Lilly has given me quite a few lovely pieces to crave. First up the the Agyness tunic ($98). I love its casualness and it just looks so comfortable.

Next up is one of my favorite pieces, the Amarah top ($88). I am actually currently wearing this top in Sunset Orange as I write this, and I love it so much that I may have to buy the pink and white ones as well.

It is a little thicker than most tops, so it is the perfect spring piece for that transitional period, where it's getting warmer but still a little too cold to wear most of the clothes that you really want, and will be great for summer evenings. It is also really versatile and can be dressed up or down. Did I mention that I love this top?

Next up is the Bay Tunic ($198). This is a great piece and would be really fun to wear when going out for drinks with friends, or on a date. (Not that I actually date.) I think it would look great with dark jeans and some metallic flats.

Another truly great top and good date top, if you are lucky enough, is the Cedar Printed Tank, $198.

I love everything about this top, the fabric, the color, the print. It is fun and so classy. Would look great on its own in the summer or under a fun jacket for spring.

For the slightly colder weather, I am loving this Kathy Boatneck Sweater Motif ($248).

I love both colors and cannot decide which one I'd rather have it in.

Now what is a Lilly post without dresses? Here are my top favorites:
I am in love with the simplicity and style of the Andover dress ($198).

I love this Lee Shift ($298). I cannot resist the collar or the bright colors.

And I just love the playful pattern and simplicity of the Brycer Dress ($198).

One thing that I love is a good wrap dress. I have several from Diane Von Furstenberg and there really is nothing more flattering. I tried the Downie Knit Dress ($278) on in Bloomingdale's and fell in love but decided to restrain myself until another time since I would not have been able to wear it for quite some time.

You can be sure that this baby will be one of the first things I get for myself for spring. From far away, it looks like it is polka dotted, but it is actually navy with tiny white lemons. It is incredibly comfortable and flattering and the picture does not do it justice.

I have mentioned before on here that two of my favorite things are the color Tiffany blue and coral. Also, this may sound weird, but I absolutely cannot stand the Little Black Dress and refuse to own one, which means that I am almost always looking for a nice, classy, nonblack cocktail/evening dress. When I saw this dress, Brayden, $398, I thought that Lilly had personally designed it for me.

Sadly, it was designed for women with smaller chests than mine so it was not meant to be. If any of you ladies out there buys it, please take amazing care of it and enjoy it so I can live vicariously through you.

Since not everyone can afford to spend $200 on a dress in this economy, how about some fun and affordable Lilly? This Limited Edition Jubilee Silk Scarf is absolutely gorgeous and only $50.

I am not a big scarf person, but I do love the look of a scarf tied around the handle of tote, and think that this would look great tied around a tan leather tote (which I will buy as soon as I find the perfect one). My mother has a slight obsession with silk scarves, and in the past I have contributed some lovely Frragamos to her collection. I'm thinking Mothers' Day may be a perfect time to add some Lilly to that.

I don't care what you say any more this is my life

So an update on what's been going on so far in my life. This was supposed to be my big skiing weekend with J. I say supposed to because, well, miscommunication happens and we got our wires crossed and he thought that we were going next weekend. He has a big test or something for law school this weekend and can't go and I'm not quite self-centered enough to make him go, so we are going next weekend. This means that Saturday night I get to go to a party that I originally had to RSVP no to, so that worked out for the best. Thank you to everyone for your kind comments of support. I had an argument that really upset me with a close guy friend yesterday. It's always much harder to break up with a friend than to break up with a boyfriend so I was really upset. After we both had the chance to cool off and calm down a bit, we were able to talk it over rationally and have worked things out for which I am very grateful. Regarding my friend who's moving in with her boyfriend: I tried telling her that I think she's making a mistake, but she won't listen to me. I'm really concerned about her, but there is only so much that I can do except hope for the best and be there for her if he breaks her heart. Last night I went out for drinks with one of my sisters at Stir and got to see her engagement ring. It is absolutely gorgeous and is so shiny that I told her if she was ever lost in the forest, she could use her ring to start a fire to send smoke signals. For all of my NYC ladies, if you have not been to Stir, I highly recommend you go. They have a lot of booths and really delicious drinks. The place is never crowded during happy hour which is great because you can always find seating and can talk with your friends without hearing 20 other conversations going on. Tonight, I am going to dinner with a college friend whom I have not seen since the summer. We're going to Gyu-Kaku. It's a Japanese BBQ place that I haven't heard of before, but a lot of my friends who've been theer have had only positive things to say about it, so I'm very excited!

My friend just imd me to tell me that she's moving to Philadelphia. So she can live with her boyfriend. They've been together for one month!!!!

I can't even use the "if you're happy, I'm happy" line.

I hate boys

No ladies, this will not be a post detailing how much boys suck or describing any situation in detail. This is just me stating the obvious. I'm kind of down about a situation with a friend now and am trying to cheer myself up. Fortunately, tonight I'm going to happy hour with one of my sisters to celebrate her engagement (nothing says "get over a guy" quite like "look at my nice shiny diamond" does, but the alcohol and the fact that I love her dearly and have not gotten to see her in a while should help). My question to you is, when it's time to move on and potentially cut someone out of your life if need be, how do you cheer yourself up, dust off, and move on?

(No this is not about J.)

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Hi ladies. So as you know, lately I have gotten really into working out. I've lost some weight and need to get new clothes (what a shame) and would also like to get some workout clothes. I've been wanting something cute that doesn't scream "I have no life outside of the gym" but also want something that's a step up from my current wardrobe "Corona, Halloween 2005." I've been seeing Lululemon clothes on some people and think that they are adorable. However, I don't know anyone who's ever worn them and the website doesn't list prices. Have any of you ever tried Lululemon? How do the clothes fit? How much do they retail for? Are they worth the price tag? Otherwise, are there any other items that you can recommend to yours truly?

Questions, Part I

The Southern Starlet writes:
Do you like your peanut butter smooth or crunchy (this would beg the question "do you like peanut butter?").
Yes I do. I love peanut butter. I am a smooth kind all the way girl. Crunchy seriously bothers me. When I was in summer camp, we would get fudgesicles and smear peanut butter on them and eat them like that. So good! If you have never tried this, I recommend you get yourself to a supermarket pronto!

(As a side note, if you have not yet entered her amazing giveaway, be sure to do so!)

The Cape House writes:
Your header always makes me think of that movie. Have you seen Stepford Wives? What is your favorite "stepford wife" item, accessory, cookware, or outfit? Essentially, when do you most feel like a "Stepford Wife?" Also, what is your favorite vacation place?
I have seen Stepford Wives and I tell people that it is the worst movie with the best wardrobe. I think that it would have been so much better if it had been muted and I could just essentially window shop. My favorite Stepford Wife accessory is easy. Pearls. Lots of them. I'm one of those girls that if I'm awake, I'm wearing pearls. In terms of outfit, any cute sundress, really. I have so many, and am always buying more. My favorite cookware is also easy. The KitchenAid stand mixer. I am obsessed with baking and have been lusting over it for quite some time now. I have decided that as soon as my tax refund comes in, I'm running to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to get one in Empire Red. One of my sisters is also obsessed with baking, cooking, Martha Stewart Living, and clothing like me and we call ourselves the Future Stepford Wives of America. That's where the header came from. I absolutely love going to the Dominican Republic on vacation. The beaches are so beautiful and the hotels are amazing.

Miss Indiana writes:
If you had a thousand dollars to spend completely frivalously, what would you get?
How frivolous are we talking here? I would take a nice vacation, but that might not be frivolous enough. So here are a few other choices that I have been lusting over. A few cost more than $1,000 but it's imaginary money so it's ok.

Christian Louboutin Very Prive Patent Peep Toe Pump, $795. I have a weakness for black peep toes.

Stella McCartney Sail Print Dress, $995. I love pretty dresses!

David Yurman Blue Topaz Cable Bracelet, $1,475. I love this bracelet!

Mikimoto, "Perfect Match" Set, $2,000. Beautiful, elegant, classic, timeless, and you will have it forever.

I'd love to know what sorority you were a member of!

I'm an Alpha Sigma Alpha!

Any more questions? Keep 'em coming ladies!

questions from the peanut gallery

So it seems like lately people have been doing a lot of question posts, letting their readers leave questions for them and then replying to them in later posts. I am going to jump on the bandwagon and say ask me anything. However, I am a private person and say that you can ask me anything, however it does not mean that I will answer anything. If there are questions that I feel are too personal, I may, politely, not answer them. Otherwise, ladies start your keyboards, and have fun!

positive and negative

Being the token sorority girl that I am, I am very well aware of the "two positives and a negative" game that every sorority chapter out there uses as an ice breaker during recruitment. The rules of the game are in the title. You say two positives about your day and a negative. Instead of giving a long play by play of my long weekend, I will just do a listing of positives and negatives. So here goes.

- Our server was down at work and a lot of people lost their files. I lost the presentation that I had to give at my sorority's conference this past weekend. Because it's a personal file and not a business file, our IT team said it was last priority and that they would not be able to recover it until after the conference. This meant that I had to rewrite it on Friday at midnight. Under the influence. Ironically enough, my presentation was about standards boards.
+ I was off work on Friday and got to sleep in.
+ I got an award at the conference. It is basically a "Volunteer of the Year" type award. Yay me.
- The girls in the chapter that I advise were being total I don't want to say whats since I'm not a fan of profanity, but y'all can guess. One of them came up to a district volunteer who's in charge of advisor placement and made it very clear that she doesn't like me or want me around. She said "we don't see why MRM needs to come to our meetings, why is it necessary?" The woman's response was "because we didn't want to have to close your chapter." That shut her up. Did I mention I heart advising?
+ A girl in another chapter that I've helped out a lot got me a keychain with our letters on it to say thank you for all of my help. After my girls were being so rude to me, it was so nice and necessary. She could have gotten me a post it with the words "thank you" written on it in permanent marker, and I would have been just as happy.
+ I got Season one of Lipstick Jungle on Sunday and watched it all.
- Target and Barnes and Noble were both completely sold out of Taylor Swift's Fearless cd.
-/+ There was a massive snowstorm in NY and half the city shut down. My place of employment was in that other half that remained open. Half an hour after I was supposed to be at work, I was still more than halfway away from my job so I called out. I turned around at the next subway stop and went home. I got home at 11:50am from not actually making it to work.
+ I got to spend the whole day on my couch watching Gilmore Girls and Phantom of the Opera and eating Oreos. (Snow days were not meant for dieting.)
+ New boy called me and we spent 7 hours (!!!!!) on the phone. I know need to upgrade my calling plan with Verizon. This is the only month that I have ever gotten anywhere near my alloted minutes, let alone used them all.
+ Boy is stationed in England. I am borderline obsessed with Curly Wurly bars. He got me a ton of those and two "green" shopping bags from Tesco that have ladybugs on them. (Ladybugs are my sorority's mascot and I adore them and anything that is polkadotted and he knows that.)
- When I moved, I registered for a gorgeous set of wine glasses that I really wanted. My best friend got it for me for my housewarming. Yesterday, I was cleaning and accidentally knocked one off the counter and broke it and was upset for a few hours. I realize it is not the end of the world, but I really love that set, and every glass in that set is different and the only way for me to replace it would be to buy an entire set of four.

And the winner is

So ladies, I once again have to apologize for my MIA-ness these past few days. I was preoccupied with work and sorority and our network going down at work and losing my files, how fun, that I did not get to update any posts or even do a favorite things post this week. For all of you who are curious about the situation with J, I will say that we are still flirty but will in no way be serious or exclusive. There is another boy in my life right now, but because he reads this blog, I will not say anything about him.

It was a great surprise to come back to blogland finally and discover that I won two giveaways! Thank you ladies. And now it is my turn. The winner of my L.L. Bean Bote and Tote Giveway is:

Jane in the Waiting Line!!!!

Congratulations lady. Email me your address and choice of color, strap length, and personalization and I will have it sent to you. Now it is your turn to Pay it Forward and host a giveaway on your blog.
